Muslims Urged To Become Pioneers Of Innovation In Science And Knowledge

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Muslims should return to becoming pioneers of innovation in science and knowledge just like those in the golden era of Islamic rule, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"We will become stronger and more respected if we become pioneers of science and knowledge," he said when closing the "The Glory of Science in Islamic Civilisation Exhibition" here Thursday.

"The Muslim community cannot leave innovation in science and technology to other races, be they from the West or East and remain mere users of innovative products."

Najib added the Muslim community struggle now was to regain their status that has been in decline lately.

"Muslims are weak because of their own weakness in failing to practice the Islamic culture that call on them to seek knowledge and remain united," he added.

The Deputy Prime Minister said muslim youths have an important role to play in protecting the community through their quest for knowledge to bring about development and prosperity.

Some 250,000 people visited the exhibition opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centree (KLCC) last Jan 8.

Najib hoped that a similar exhibition could he held in the other states.
