Islam Hadhari Accepted By All For Its Universal Values
KOTA KINABALU, Oct 7 (Bernama) - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Islam Hadhari which he introduced as a guideline for the administration and development of the country is accepted by all, including non-Muslim leaders, due to its universal principles.
Abdullah said the Islam Hadhari principles which stressed justice, fairness, the importance of knowledge in human capital development, environmental conservation, etc were universal principles accepted by all.
"Justice is for all and not for certain individuals only. It should benefit all. The laws and the Constitution are for all regardless of their status in life," he said when addressing the people at a breaking of fast here Saturday night.
Among several state and national leaders present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal and Education Minister Datuk Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
On education from the Islam Hadhari point of view, Abdullah said there should be ample opportunities for all races so that no one group lagged behind.
"Among the steps taken were the abolishment of school fees and examination fees so that even the poor could have access to education.
"Providing opportunities for women to advance in education and career is also one of the principles of Islam Hadhari which does not discriminate women."
He said the government's launching of various economic development corridors to spur growth in the states involved was also in line with the Islam Hadhari concept.
On the negative perception among certain quarters, particularly the opposition, that Islam Hadhari was a new religious teaching Abdullah said: "Islam Hadhari is not a new religion. Neither is it a new sect but a "Manhaj" or guideline derived from religious interpretations for good governance and national well-being."
