PETALING JAYA (Jan 18, 2007): Bloggers Jeff Ooi (Screenshots) and Rocky (Rocky's Bru) have been sued for defamation by the New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) and individuals of the company over the postings on their blogs.

Ooi Chuan Aun aka Jeff Ooi was also served an interim ex parte injunction to refrain from further posting articles against the plaintiffs.

In the interim injunction granted by Justice Datuk Abdul Malik Ishak in his chambers on Jan 11, Ooi was ordered to remove 13 postings from his blog within seven days.

Ooi also cannot post articles or words which defame the plaintiffs in his blog or anywhere in the worldwide web. (Picture : "I have been served the papers. Apart from the articles, the injunction also stops Ooi from allowing any other articles, log books, letters, comments, posts and statements which defame the plaintiffs on his blog or any other places.

However, Ahiruddin Attan aka "Rocky", a former NSTP editor, has so far not been served with a similar injunction.

He has been summoned to appear before the High Court on Jan 25 for the hearing of an injunction application against him.

A hearing for an inter parte injunction against Ooi has been fixed for Jan 30.

The plaintiffs in the suit against Ooi are the NSTP, its deputy chairman and editorial adviser Datuk Kalimullah Masheerul Hassan, group editor-in-chief Datuk Hishamuddin Aun and former group editor Brenden John Pereira.

Apart from the four plaintiffs in Ooi's case, NSTP chief executive officer Datuk Syed Feisal Albar Syed A.R. Albar is also a plaintiff in the suit against Rocky.

Rocky posted on his blog today that the plaintiffs cited 48 articles in their statement of claims.

A source close to the top NSTP management said the company has not specified any amount of damages.

"We will leave it to the court to decide. The purpose of the suits is to help to promote responsible blogs," said the source who declined to be named. sun2surf
