KUALA TERENGGANU, Sep 21 - One imam has been sacked and another may face the same outcome if he is found to be directly involved in the Sept 8 riot in Batu Burok here.
State Islam Hadhari Development and Welfare committee chairman Datuk Rosol Wahid said severe action was meted out against the imam from Kampung Kebun Air, Manir, here as his behaviour was unbecoming.
He said the other imam from Kampung Pak Madah, Alor Limbat, Marang, caught on video shouting at Federal Reserve Unit personnel, during the riot, could face similar punishment.
Rosol said he has strong evidence that the imam was involved in the riot.
Rosol said the imam had misbehaved during the riot and, as a religious man, he should not have conducted himself in such a manner.
"We can't be lenient on such cases as their actions are unacceptable.
"They should be the one leading the way but these imams are manifesting negative traits while professing beliefs and opinions that they do not hold," he said. Meanwhile, more people on Friday surrendered to the police to help facilitate the probe into the riot after their pictures appeared in the newspaper.
Police earlier this week said that if the individuals sought in connection with the riot did not surrender by Friday, a manhunt would be launched to track them down.

KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 14 - PAS has issued a fatwa (religious edict) to punish those practising and preaching Islam Hadhari, deeming them infidels.
State Islam Hadhari and Welfare Committee chairman Datuk Rosol Wahid, replying to a question by Alias Abdullah (BN – Alor Limbat), said the fatwa was issued by a young PAS leader and his declaration was disseminated in a series of gatherings to the masses.
“We have all the necessary evidence in the form of recordings and written material to substantiate the fatwa issued by PAS,” the state executive councillor said.
He urged the religious department to investigate and act against the PAS leader who issued this fatwa.
Rosol said the religious department had also identified 84 mosques that had been misused by PAS leaders to preach their version of safeguarding Islam.
“They hurl all of kind of accusations and lies in their bid to disunite Muslims,” he added.
The assembly continues today. theStarOnline

Kemajuan T'ganu-K'tan macam dipisahkan 'tembok Berlin' - ZAM

T'ganu Umno Launches New Slogan "Blue Sea"
State Umno Liaison Head Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the change in the slogan was necessary to give greater impact and subsequently ensure that the Barisan Nasional (BN) remained in power in the state.
"We expect the percentage of votes for the BN to increase by five per cent in the next general election. As such, we will change the Blue Wave strategy to the Blue Sea beginning today," said Idris, who is also Terengganu Menteri Besar.
He said this at the launching of the Terengganu Umno Election Machinery for the Polling Districts and Canvassers (K5) by Umno deputy president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), here Friday.
Idris said that in efforts to ensure that the BN continued to remain in power in Terengganu in the coming general election, the state party machinery must not only have ample facilities but also strong discipline and strategy.
The BN had introduced the Blue Wave slogan to wrest Terengganu from PAS in the 2004 general election.

Rosli Zakaria
New Straits Times, Nov 15.
Barring a few details, the stage is set for five exciting days of yacht racing from Nov 29.Event manager T-Best Events is putting the finishing touches to the venue to welcome competitors and visitors, who will watch the race from the boardwalk and VIP tents.
Signs have been put up to guide visitors, not only on Pulau Duyong, but all along the main road from the entry points to the state — Kemaman in the south and Besut in the north.
"It’s not easy to get lost in Terengganu, but we want to be sure that everyone, especially those who are driving, know that they are heading in the right direction," said T-Best Event chairman Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh.
Promotional activities have been stepped up to make this year’s event grander and more enjoyable than the last.
"As we go along, we identify and rectify the weaknesses. It’s not easy to please everyone, but we will do our best to make visitors happy. This year they can watch the races at close range, which will be more exciting," he said.
Wan Hisham says the pace will pick up on Pulau Duyong a week before race day, with the arrival of competitors and officials, television crews and reporters and photographers from the print media.
"A lot of work needs to be done before, during and after the race, and we need the full co-operation of everyone involved, including the villagers.
"So far preparations are on track. We are now looking into the fine details. There are bound to be hiccups, but with the use of information technology, problems will be solved more quickly.
Deputy chairman of the state Industrial Development and Tourism Committee, Datuk Nasir Ibrahim said that while the days will be taken up by the racing, there will be entertainment in the evenings.
Rodat, a traditional dance, and wayang kulit are among the performances by local artistes that have been lined up for the event.
