KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 - Commercial Crimes Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Ramli Yusoff has been suspended indefinitely, following charges against him under the Anti-Corruption Act.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, who confirmed this, said the suspension was a normal procedure imposed on a policeman or policewoman caught for alleged corruption.

“It is a standard procedure that we have observed all this while.

“If any government officer or staff is caught and charged for corruption, we will suspend him immediately.

“We have our disciplinary committee to handle the matter and this is a normal practice,” he told reporters at a Hari Raya gathering at the Police Training College here last night.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin graced the event, which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Refuting suggestions that Ramli’s suspension has tarnished the image of the police force, he said such suspensions had been done before.

It is learnt that Ramli received his suspension letter at 3.30pm yesterday.

Ramli, 55, had claimed trial in a Sessions Court here on Thursday to two counts of failing to declare assets worth some RM1mil and a third count for being involved in business while still in service.

He is the highest ranked police officer to be charged with corruption.
